Over the holiday break we're looking back over some of the more fascinating conversations featured in this series with two student stories highlighted in each episode. These bite sized snapshots are a bit like your favourite holiday photos – a reminder of a memorable moment and a chance to revisit that experience again. The fourth Summer Snap features two mature aged students who have taken the long way home to realise their ambitions, yet are so much wiser for their life experience and so much hungrier for success after getting a second bite at the cherry. Having finally achieved their study goals both would unquestionably be humbled by the suggestion that their stories are inspiring, yet if you’ve ever doubted your chances of reinventing yourself through a new career these stories are just the tonic you need. Amanda Wedemeyer first began studying at Griffith University more than 20 years ago and is only now about to finish that journey. Originally enrolled to become a nurse, Amanda dropped out to lead a jet set lifestyle as an air hostess and has now returned to Griffith as the mother of six children to attain a Bachelor of Health, before going on to win the University Medal through her Honours and is now undertaking a PhD. Cameron Del Moro struggled to find his calling in life and it wasn’t helped by the fact that he didn’t do well in his HSC, but ten years after finishing high school with a host of odd jobs and playing semi professional footy under his belt the one time garbage man is now a Bachelor of Environmental Science thanks to Griffith University. From garbo to graduate!
