Jinyang Yang spent the first 14 years of his life in Beijing and the world around him always seemed to be at a fast pace. Then he heard about the Gold Coast through a tutor and after exploring the city online he was thrilled by the beautiful scenery of this amazing city by the sea. The following year Jinyang enrolled at Merrimac State High School as an international student and he’s been here ever since. Since his arrival Jinyang has discovered that the Gold Coast offers so much more than he first thought – he quickly fell in love with the serenity of the city’s natural environment and as he began to settle in, Jinyang began making new friends from diverse cultural backgrounds. Now studying medicine at university, Jinyang’s Australian dream has become a reality and he’s excited by the opportunities available, to the point where he’s beginning to wonder whether he’ll ever call China his home again. As an only child, that’s not an easy call, but he has the full backing of his parents who continue to support him on his antipodean journey.
